Light, Camera, ACTION!

One possibility for our next unit of study (China) may be making a video about a certain topic. Here is an example of a video a student created about the Indus Valley. After viewing the video, please leave a comment detailing strengths and weaknesses of this student's work. What criteria would we need to set for a good world history video?

Windows Movie Maker or Photo Story would work well for this project. Remember the copyright issues--you must use copyright-free pictures and music. Good luck Grades 7 and 8 students and remember, I'm here to help if you need it.

i really liked the music but the color of the words were a bit hard to read sometimes and i think they should have read over all there stuff because there was some typos but rather than that it was a good video.

The video was very lively, it got your attention right away, and kept it right to the end! There was some very good information, and interesting pictures, although they moved away quickly. The slides with complex/ busy, pictures, and writing behind them were very challenging to read. Many of the slides' writing fonts were extremely bright, and hard on the eyes. There were also a few spelling errors. It would have been easier to consume the information if the video had been narrated, but overall it was a great video! :)

These are the things I liked and disliked about the Indus Valley movie we watched today. I liked how the music fit the topics nicely. They had a lot of information!!! You could really learn a lot from the video. I loved how they left the words on the screen for quite a long time so that even slow readers would have enough time to read them. I thought the presentation looked quite sharp with the pictures in the background. You know the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words." The students that created the movie did many things very well.
Even though the movie was very well done, there were a few things I would have done different. Some of the words were hard to read because of the colour of the font. Some spelling and grammar should be checked ex. A sentence does NOT start with "And." Some of the pictures were not very clear. I know sometimes this can't be
helped, but it is just a suggestion. All in all, the video was very well done!!! I hope mine turns out well!!!

What I really Enjoyed about the video!
The video was really good i loved it. The part I liked about it was when the pictures and words were playing and there was music playing in the background. The music related to the video and the pictures. I loved how it had lots of pictures. I was really in to the video, and I enjoyed watching it!
What you could improve on.
If the words are on the pictures are make the picture is dark or the picture is dark and the writing is light.

Some of the things I found really impressive about the video were the really nice pictures, there were a variety of them and I thought the tied in perfectly with video. Another good thing about the video was the music. I found it very catchy.

On the other hand, some of the things that could of really been much better were the colors they chose to write in. Some of them were nearly impossible to read. There were also a fair number of typos. One thing I might have done if I was making this video would have been to record someone reading the text so you could pay more attention to the actual pictures rather then completely concentrating on the words.

These are some of my suggestions...

Hello, everyone. How are you doing today? In the video that we saw i think that the person should have been talking, not just having words flow across the page. I also think that the man should have made sure that all of the words were clear, some were kinda hard to read. Some of the picture were not to easy to read, then some were very nice pictures. the music really match the video, i think that it tied it all together. Some of the words were spelt wrong so maybe he should have done some spell check and maybe had the words out longer. Some of the sentences were kinda hard to read. The last few picture went by really fast so never got a good look at them. The video was a pretty good video, i guess. Thank-you for reading my postage!

Well i liked the video but there were a few things that the person could fix to make the video even better.
1. when you have a light background use a dark text.
2. don't use very bright colours.(depends on what the video is on.)
3. Pick and easy text to read.
4. make sure the text is big enough.
5. pick music that matches the mood of the video.
6. Don't write over other words.

Hi,

I really liked the way that the word were in front in all of the pictures and the pictures kind of in the back ground, but i couldn't read some of the writing though, it really blended in withe the pictures. The music was good too. You had really good information , and you defiantly knew what you were doing, and doing the video on. Some of your pictures were kind of blurry though. I really liked your video and I hope that ours is as good as it. =D

It's kind of hard to read what they've written at times, so it would help if they read it over the music. They need to check they're spelling and grammar. Great music! They have a lot of good information and some really nice pictures.

This video had good pictures and they really knew there stuff... some things i would say that needs fixed would be
1. Make sure the writing is readable.
2. Make sure the words slower for note making.
3.make sure all spelling is correct.
4.make sure all sentences make sense. other than that well done the video maker really knew their stuff. :)

i think there could have bin better music picked out for the right slide shows, the slides move to quick some of the pictures were a bit blurry, other wise it was a great slide show and it looks like they put a lot a hard work into it it had good descriptions on what everything was a bout.
