Winnipeg trip

On Wednesday, April 29 2009, The grade 5-8 students all attended a field trip to Winnipeg, to visit the Holocaust Museum. We learned many things. We discussed a lot of information about the Holocaust, and also heard a story from a Holocaust survivor. Her story was very interesting, and some what scary. While we were in Winnipeg we also visited the I-Max and watch "Under the Sea 3-D," and went to Polo Park for supper and shopping. It was a very fun and educational trip.

My trip to the Holocaust Museum!! By: Sammy

On Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 we went to the Holocaust Museum in Winnipeg. First we went to Assiniboine park, to eat our lunch. After that we went to the Museum, it was very educational. A lady came in and talked to us about the Holocaust, and some of her family were survivors. Then another lady came in that was a survivor. She told us her story. It was very interesting. She never got sent to a camp, but had to hide for a long time. Next we went to the IMax theater. We watched Under the Sea 3-D. It was awesome. We then went to Polo Park to have supper and to go shopping. I bought a Lulu Lemon head band and sweat pant Capri's, I love them very much. I had lots of fun, and really enjoyed it.

Trip to Winnipeg- By: Leslie

On April 29, the grade 5-8's from Oak Lake Community School loaded the bus and headed down to Winnipeg. When we arrived, we had a picnic lunch at Assiniboine Park. After lunch we had time to spare, so we went exploring! We got back on the bus and headed to the Holocaust Education Centre. First of all, a lady talked to us about the history of Adolf Hitler. After that a survivor of the Holocaust from France talked to us about her experiences and how her and her families life was changed during the Holocaust. Life for them must have been very difficult. After the presentation we headed down Portage Avenue to the Imax. We watched Under the Sea 3D! It was truly incredible. After the Imax, we got back on the bus and headed to Polo Park, where we ate a delicious supper, which was paid for by a grant we received from Community Schools. We then enjoyed some time shopping! Our trip to Winnipeg was a great experience and I hope we can do it again!

April 21, 2009- By: Leslie Friesen

Today we found out that the Great Wall of China is not only 6700 kilometers long. Using a GPS system, scientists saw more of the Wall from space. Scientists believe the Wall was not seen earlier because it was covered in sand from sandstorms. They found about 1800 more kilometers. That means the wall is about 8500 kilometers long!! Think of all the artifacts that will be found. Seeing as they are buried in sand, they will be very well preserved.

We worked on our timelines, today. Remember they are due on Friday!

We are very excited that Reston Collegiate has been commenting on our blog! Thank you Reston!

Congratulations Grade7/8

All Grade7/8 Ancient China group project presentations are complete!

Good for you Grade 7/8s!!

You persevered(even when technology did not cooperate),you were solution focused and the end results were you became familiar with the technology needed to produce movies and or photo stories or to add some sound track and or music to your power points!!

Your pop quiz also showed that you even learned some of the important and interesting facts about Ancient China in the process!

Other skills learned included how important it is to time manage when preparing a project: how important it is to break a project down and work cooperatively with a group of people to produce and present one final end product!

As the wise ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius says:

"I hear, and I forget. I see, and I remember. I do, and I understand."
