Importance of Nile R.
Story of ancient Egypt is story of Nile
Nile flows from south (Upper Egypt) to north(Lower Egypt)
for about 1000 km connecting entire country
most of river valley is less than 20 km wide
valley much wider at river's mouth - Nile Delta- shaped like a triangle of extremely fertile land
Nile flooded banks every year in late spring and deposited fine black silt on land around it
Levels flooding varied greatly year to year
Too high water- villages and fields destroyed
Too low water - crops failed and infestation of pests and scorpions and rats
When flood waters receded farmers planted crops
farmland was resurveyed each year
Egyptians were good at math -especially geometry and surveying techniques.

- Our area in Manitoba has had recent snowfalls, poor visibility and driving conditions leading to accidents.
- Actress Betty White turned 89 yesterday and is the only living " Golden Girl
- Tomorrow is grade 6-8 O.L.C.S Raptors 1st BB. tournament in Elkhorn. Go Raptors!
- Super cross dirt bike racing has started for the season. James Stewart and Ryan Villipoto are tied for 1st place!
- On Sunday, New York Jets defeated the New England Patriots, 28-21. Biggest upset in the playoffs.
- Ag. Days started this week at the Keystone Centre.
- Mudslide in south eastern Brazil killed over 600 people.
- Ron Thompson died yesterday. He was a famous weather man for CKX T.V.
- Yesterday was Martin Luther King day. He was a famous American civil rights leader.
- Yesterday was "Blue Monday" the most depressing day of the year. This is due to failed New Years Resolutions, having to go back to work, paying the Christmas bills, no more sales and the weather!
- Principal Mark Keown won the Canadian Association of Principals Award as well as a music support award. Mr Keown is principal at VJH. Congratulations to Mr Keown from O.L.C.S Grade 8 class.
- In western Canada there have been 25 avalanches leading to cross country skiers, snowmobilers, skiers being buried and some have lost their lives.
