Don Cherry gets the Axe

  • Don Cherry, 86 years, was a hockey icon, having spent his life playing hockey and coaching at many levels.
  • was a commenter and hockey analyst for Coaches Corner until he was fired on Nov.11.
  • Cherry had strong opinions and comments about those not wearing a poppy were thought to be discriminatory and directed to immigrants. 
  • this has created controversy, with pros and cons on how SportsNet handled his dismissal

Nestle Boycott

  • Nestle bottled water comes from wells and lakes across Canada communities but not necessarily with consent.
  • 4.7 million litres are taken, but little money is given to the communities 20 cents a litre, nestle sells a bottle of water for $2.00.
2019 Hockey Hall of Fame Inductees

  • the ceremony was held on November 15 - 18 weekend to welcome inductees; all former players and coaches in various levels of hockey. 
  • purpose of the ceremony is to honour inductees whose passion and love for hockey is memorable.
  • Hayley Wickenheiser, the youngest inductee has been an excellent role model for kids, well deserved to be in the hall of fame
CN Rail Workers on Strike 

  • CN Rail Workers went on strike as their demands for safer working conditions were not met.
  • 3000 employees on strike as of Nov.19 as their contract ended July 23.
  • staff was concerned about fatigue, working hours and working conditions.

2019 Grey Cup Winners

- On Sunday, Nov. 24 the Winnipeg Blue Bombers played the Hamilton Tiger Cats in Calgary.
- Winnipeg won after a 29 year drought. The score was 33-12 for the Bombers.
- Homegrown Winnipeger, Andrew Harris was named MVP of the game and most valuable Canadian player.
- Mrs. Logeot's daughter taught Andrew Harris, one of three players that attended her school. 

Maddison Yetman

- Was an 18 year old girl who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. 
- Her mission was to encourage young adults to get out and vote in the Canadian federal election. 
- Her video went viral and was watched over seven hundred thousand times. 
- Sadly Maddison passed away on Nov. 16, 2019, 4 weeks after the election.
