- OLCS gr.7/8 student council members attended WE Day in Winnipeg at the MTS centre, Oct. 30/12!

Some hilights from the day were:
- Each person received a necklace with a water droplet and at a certain time they have lit, this symbolized that each person like the water droplet can make a diffrence in the world.
- Every person at WE day recieved a special bag to collect pennies for 1 person for the rest of their lifes to have fresh water to drink. The idea is to have the largest pennie drive ever! WE day will be an international initiative.

- Spencer West described his climb of Mt. Kilamajaro and how he proved doctors wrong; when he was born with a genetic disease and had to have his legs ampatated at age 5. He was not expected to be anything! He now motivates and fundraises to make a diffrence in the world for others.
- Robb Nash singer and song writer told his story of a near fatal car accident where he was declared dead and survived. He has been working with youth who are in prison and discovering their talents and helping them turn their lifes around.
- There were amazing performers i.e ribbon acrobatics, Shawn Desman, Lights, Victoria Duffield, All star weekend, Tyler Shaw.

                     HHT         Oct.16/2012

- Canada's women's soccer Captain Christine Sinclair was suspended for four games and fined $3500 last week for unsportsmanlike behavior at the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

- On Sunday, Oct. 14th, Felix Baumgartner makes a death defying free fall which broke the sound barrier.  It lasted 9 minutes and he fell at the speed of 1342.8 km per hour.

- After nine years as Ontario's premier, Dalton Mcguingty will step down as Ontario's premier.

- 19 year old Brandon Wheat king forward Jens Meileur is having the best start of his WHL career.  Meileur is part of the reason they have a 5-3 start.

On Oct.14  Kerri Wilson had a fundraiser to raise money for her to get surgery for her MS.  This fundraiser raised $11 600 and now she has $17 600 and can afford the surgery in California.

- On Oct. 9, a farmer in the Carberry area found two of his calves shot, each valued at $900.

- Last week a group of students from Winnipeg got more than wanted when a massive snow storm hit, leaving them to walk 7.5 hours from where they were camping.

- On Oct. 9, Randy Guest came to OLCS to teach film making, he will be in Oak Lake till Friday.

HHT- Oct 4th, 2012
- On September 25, on Tuesday at 1:56 am a fire started at the Rocanville mine and lasted about 10 hours. The fire caused an explosion which trapped 20 workers for 16 hours. All workers made it to the surface safely.
-Alberta Premier Alison Redford says that she stands behind the provinces beef, even after the recent outbreak of E.coli in some of Alberta beef products.
- On Sunday, Sept 30, five hundred people ran for the Canadian breast Cancer Foundations CIBC Run for the cure, raising $100 210 that will go towards the Breast Cancer research.  
- April 1/12 Troy Adams is on a nine month journey across Canada he is making awareness of how serious brain injuries are.

-The scary children's movie Hotel Transylvania has broken the September viewing record by 10 million dollars.
 
-A new study has been announced to benefits those who have MS. Winnipeg is one of the four cities to participate in this national trial. Recruitment for participants will begin in November, 2012 in Vancouver and Montreal. There will be 100 participants, 25 from each city.
 
 
- A new device that cools and alters your body tempature is all the rage for people suffering from heat stroke.
 
 
- 35 year old Korean singer Psy is climbing the charts with his song Gangnam Style, being the first Korean singer that has ever climbed the British singles chart.
