On Jan. 31st Rick Hansen will be coming to Oak Lake school and will be sharing his story with us. Ashley will be one of the medal bearers who gets to run with Rick Hansen.

Using poster board and colored pencils design a Sumerian city state. Include a title, ziggurat, city wall, farmland, irrigation system, narrow winding streets, government buildings, courtyards, homes of different social classes.

Mrs. Masson went on a trip to Mexico over Christmas holidays and brought back some interesting information on Mexico!:

If you wanted good luck in love in the new year, wear red underwear. For money- yellow, and to travel, take your luggage for a walk.
Bacalao- dried salted cod fish and toasted with sparkling cider.
On Kings day, Jan. 9, they bake bread in a wreath shape with candied fruit on top and a ceramic baby Jesus on it. Whoever gets the baby Jesus in their bread will host a party on Feb. 2 for family and have the ceramic baby blessed at church.
Children get presents on Christmas Eve.

On December 13th the Brandon Wheat Kings played the Kelowna Rockets and won 5-3.

Wheat King goalie Corbin Boes delivered teddy bears to the children ward of Brandon General Hospital. Oak Lake's Owen Bedford received 1 of the bears.

Canada and United States are closing some small border crossings. 3 have been closed and others allow you to enter United States, but not return to Canada.
